To support all of our programs, we are proud to introduce the CLC, Inc, AmeriCorps-Texas program.  Formerly known as the Corporation for National and Community Service, AmeriCorps has been around since 1993.  Its mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.

The CLC, Inc, AmeriCorps-Texas is a program consisting of 26 Members who work as Mentors and Life Skills Trainers supporting all of CLC, Inc’s client-base.  Members serve as mentors to the youth released from the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and who are enrolled in CLC’s Youth Offender Reentry Project, providing both groups and one-on-one mentoring, coaching, and encouragement to the youth who need it most.  Activities include monthly mentor-meet-mentee events located at out partner, New Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church, as well as leadership and job-skills training at the Prayer Room/Coffee House in Fort Worth’s Morningside community.  Members and the youth they serve have assisted in feeding hundreds of families in the community who are nutritionally-deficient – the AmeriCorps Members and the youth can do so from an experienced perspective, because they too have been through situations in which they have not had enough food to eat at home.

Some of the AmeriCorps Members participate in mock interviews to the students enrolled in all of CLC’s vocational programs; these interviews are conducted in a professional setting, preparing the future graduates in the real-life pursuit of the life-and family-sustaining careers our programs provide the opportunity for.

Other AmeriCorps Members assist with GED tutoring and testing for youth and young adults who are either ineligible or unenrolled in CLC’s YouthBuild program.  These classes are conducted twice a week at our Forest Hill location.

CLC, Inc., AmeriCorps-Texas is proud to partner with Pecan Valley Centers.  Four of our AmeriCorps Members are veterans of the Armed Services, with two specifically assigned to offer mentoring and life skills coaching to their veteran peers at Pecan Valley Centers’ facilities in Parker and Johnson Counties.

Please donate to support the work of the CLC, Inc, AmeriCorps-Texas programs, to enable us to serve and do more to strengthen the resolve of those who need it most.  If you are interested in becoming an AmeriCorps Member, please call the CLC, Inc, AmeriCorps-Texas Program Coordinator, Michael Woods, at (817)212-9295.
